Beginning Quiltmaking
We will use Pat Sloan’s “Teach Me to Make My First Quilt” book
Supplies needed:
basic sewing knowledge
sewing machine in good working order (or reserve a classroom machine & come in early or a day or so before to familiarize yourself with the machine)
thread
wound bobbin
80/12 universal sewing needle
fabric clips
Rotary cutter with new blade
6x12 ruler
Basic sewing supplies: pins scissors ect.
We will piece some Rail Fence blocks, either enough for a baby-sized quilt, or a table runner.
Fabric recommended: one jelly roll, or 42-2 1/2 “ strips of coordinating colors.
Skills we will learn: How to piece an accurate 1/4 “ seam, how to accurately and safely cut strips to size, piecing blocks, trimming blocks as needed, sewing blocks together. We will discuss batting and backing, but will likely not have time to sandwich a quilt.
